Let \(L(s)\) be a Hecke \(L\)-function of a number field, \(N(\sigma ,T,2T)\) be the number of its zeros \(p=\beta +i\gamma\) with \(\beta >\sigma\), \(T<\gamma <2T\). The author studies reciprocal implications between the asymptotics of \(\int_T^{2T} |L(1/2+it)|^{2k}\,dt\) and \(N(\sigma ,T,2T)\), as \(T\to \infty\). One of these results implies a universality theorem for Hecke \(L\)-functions in the spirit of \textit{S. M. Voronin}'s result for the Riemann \(\zeta\)-function [Izv. Akad. Nauk SSSR, Ser. Mat. 39, 475--486 (1975; Zbl 0315.10037)]. However the universality theorem proved in the paper under review is conditional, it assumes the estimate \[ \int_T^{2T} |L(1/2+it)|^{2k}\,dt \leq CT(\log T)^A \] where \(0<k<1\), \(A,C>0\). For other extensions of Voronin's theorem see [\textit{H. Mishou}, Acta Arith. 98, No. 4, 395--410 (2001; Zbl 0982.11050)].
