A linear map \(D:L \to L\) over a Lie algebra \(L\) is called a \(\delta\)-derivation if \(D([x,y])=\delta[D(x),y]+\delta[x,D(y)]\) for any \(x,y \in L\) and where \(\delta\) is a fixed element in the base field \(\mathbb{K}.\) As examples we have the \(1\)-derivations which agree with the ordinary derivations, the elements of the centroid are \(\frac{1}{2}\)-derivations and the the maps sending commutators to zero are \(0\)-derivations. These examples are known as \textit{trivial} \(\delta\)-derivations. In the paper under review the author studies \(\delta\)-derivations from different points of view. After an introductory section where the notation and conventions are also stated (here we note that the base field is of characteristic distinct from 2 and 3), in the first and second sections current Lie algebras and Zassenhaus algebras are considered, respectively. A current Lie algebra is a Lie algebra of the form \(L\otimes A\) obtained by tensoring a Lie algebra \(L\) with an associative commutative algebra \(A\) where the product is given by \([x \otimes a, y \otimes b]=[x,y] \otimes ab\) for any \(x,y \in L\) and any \(a,b \in A\). If furthermore either \(L=[L,L]\) or is centerless, \(A\) has a unit, either \(L\) or \(A\) is finite-dimensional and \(\delta \neq 0,1\), then the author shows that the set of \(\delta\)-derivations of \(L\otimes A\) (a linear space) is isomorphic to the set of \(\delta\)-derivations of \(L\) tensorized with \(A\). In the case of the Zassenhaus algebra the set of its \(\frac{1}{2}\)-derivations is computed, becoming an example of a Lie algebra with \(\frac{1}{2}\)-derivations which are divisors of zero. This gives us a negative answer to a question posed in [\textit{V. T. Filippov}, ``On \(\delta\)-derivations of prime Lie algebras'', Dokl. Math. 59, No. 1, 79--80 (1999; Zbl 0977.17015)]. In the third section an interesting connection of the theory of \(\delta\)-derivations with the one of gradings of Lie algebras appears which allows the author to give a systematic construction of examples of gradings of Lie algebras which are non-semigroup gradings, being an important topic in the theory of gradings on Lie algebras. In the fourth section the author makes use of the Grassmann envelope to get results about \(\delta\)-(super)derivations of Lie superalgebras from the corresponding result about Lie algebras. Finally, in the last and fifth section, some directions for future investigation in this field are suggested. See also the Erratum in [J. Algebra 410, 545--546 (2014; Zbl 1371.17016)]. | |||||||||||||||
