The authors introduce so-called \(\lambda\)-modules, meaning usual \(L^\infty(G)\)-modules, where \(G\) is a sub-\(\sigma\)-algebra of a probability space. For this object, they generalize several notions of algebra, topology and functional analysis like sublinearity, convexity, gauge function, absorbent set, seminorm, norm, local convexity, Cauchy net, completeness, Banach module, weak topology, polar set, etc. As the main results, the authors prove \(\lambda\)-module versions for several theorems known for (mainly Banach) algebras, such as the Hahn-Banach theorem, separation theorems and Alaoglu-Bourbaki theorems. This paper is a good start towards generalizing this kind of results for more and more general topological modules. The motivation for this work comes from new concepts for the regulation of insurance companies, because of which non-bounded versions of the known models are needed.
