In the paper under review, the authors prove that if \(X\subset\mathbb{P}(1,1,2,3)\) is a normal sextic surface, then \(\text{lct}_{n,2}(X) > 2/3\) provided that \(X\) has only \(A_n\)-singularities, \(n\leq 6\). Here \(\text{lct}_{n,2}\) is defined exactly as the so-called \textit{global log canonical threshold} of \(X\) (see, e.g., \textit{I. A. Chel'tsov} and \textit{K. A. Shramov} [Russ. Math. Surv. 63, No. 5, 859--958 (2008); translation from Usp. Mat. Nauk 63, No. 5, 73--180 (2008; Zbl 1167.14024)]), but instead of divisors numerically equivalent to \(-K_X\) one considers pencils (a.k.a. \(1\)-dimensional linear systems) of such divisors. The motivation for this result and its relation with the Kähler-Einstein problem are described in the Introduction. The proof of the main theorem is technical and goes as the case-by-case analysis, based on the geometry of curves on \(X\), as well as certain elementary inequalities (the crucial one being Theorem 1.27 in the text).
