The author extends the Fitzpatrick theory and provides a new variational formulation for stationary or evolutionary inclusions of the form \[ \alpha_u(u)\ni z' \text{ in }V',\leqno(1) \] where \(V\) is a reflexive real Banach space and \(\alpha_v:V\to {\mathcal P}(V')\) is maximal monotone for any \(v\in V\). By using the classical minimax theorem of Fan, he proves the existence of a solution of problem \((1)\). Some applications of the obtained results include stationary and evolutionary quasilinear PDEs for pseudomonotone operators. The corresponding variational inequalities are also presented.
