Let \(X\) be a metric space. The authors define cone fields on \(X\) in terms of pairs of non-negative real-valued functions defined in neighborhoods of points of the product \(X\times X\). They show that if \(\Lambda\) is an invariant set of a mapping \(f:X\to X\) on which \(f\) is uniformly expansive, then there is a cone-field on \(\Lambda\) such that \(f\) is cone-hyperbolic on \(\Lambda\).
