The authors study a new method for the analysis of convergence of univariate nonuniform subdivision schemes. In fact, they study the possibility of relaxing the necessity of the existence of difference schemes. Also, several asymptotic conditions on the subdivision masks are imposed. This method is applied to the analysis of interpolatory schemes based upon local interpolation by extended Chebyshev systems.
