In this paper, the author investigates the Riesz potential type operator \(R\), \(R:L^2(\Omega)\to L^2(\Omega)\), defined by \[ Rf(z)=\int_{\Omega}f(\xi)/(|\xi-z|^{2-\alpha})\,dx\,dy,\quad z=x+iy,\quad 0<\alpha<2, \] where \(\Omega\) is a bounded convex domain in \(\mathbb C\) with smooth boundary and its curvature separated from \(0\) and \(\infty\). The author proves that (a) \(\lambda_{n}(R)=c(\alpha)/n^{(\alpha/2)}(1+O(1/(n^{\delta'}))\), \(\delta'<(1/2)(\alpha/(\alpha+1))\), \(1<\alpha<2\), (b) if \(\sqrt{2}<\alpha<2\), then \[ \sum_{n=1}^{\infty}(\lambda_{n}(R)-c(\alpha)/n^{(\alpha/2)})=-\zeta(\alpha/2)c(\alpha), \] where \(\lambda_{n}(R)\) denotes the eigenvalues of the operator \(R\), \(\zeta(.)\) is the Riemann zeta function, \[ c(\alpha)=\pi^{1-(\alpha/2)}\Gamma(\alpha/2)/\Gamma(1-\alpha/2)|\Omega|^{(\alpha/2)}, \] \(|\Omega|\) is the area of the domain \(\Omega\), and \(\Gamma\) is the Euler gamma function.
