The work provides one with a practical tool for the evaluation of the complex behaviour of nonlinear oscillators. The relevant system of nonlinear differential equations is converted into an augmented quasi-linear dynamical system in the Minkowski space, with the coefficient matrix being a Lie-form. Based on the Lie-group symmetry of the underlying new system, two types of closed-form Lie-group solutions are derived. The methodology employed assists in detecting the appearance of chaotic motion, such as subharmonic motions and chaos. The proposal of the bifurcation diagram obtained leads to a finer structure of the devil staircase for the quadratic oscillator, and the cascade of subharmonic motions to chaotic motions for the Duffing oscillator.
