The authors show that if \(E/K\) is an elliptic curve over a real quadratic field \(K\), and \(F/K\) is a totally real Galois extension then \(E/F\) is modular. The case \(F=K\) has been proved in [the second author et al., Invent. Math. 201, No. 1, 159--206 (2015; Zbl 1397.11086)]. If for one \(p\in \{3,5,7\}\) the image of \(\rho_p(G_F)\) is big then the result follows from the results of Freitas, Le Hung and Siksek [loc. cit.]. In this note the authors concentrate on the case where \(\rho_p(G_F)\) is not big for \(p=3,5,7\) simultaneously.
