Let \(\Omega \subset\mathbb R^2\) be a bounded domain with smooth boundary. Let \(a\in C^\infty (\overline \Omega )\) be positive. The paper studies the nonlinear Neumann problem for the elliptic equation \(-\nabla \cdot (a(x)\nabla u(x))+a(x)u(x)=0\) in \(\Omega \), \(u>0\) in \(\Omega \), \(\partial u/\partial \nu =u^p\) on \(\partial \Omega \). Let \(z\) be a strict local maximum point of \(a\) on \(\partial \Omega \). It is shown that for any positive integer \(m\) there exists \(p_m >1\) such that for any \(p>p_m\) there is a family of solutions \(u_p\) of the problem with \(m\) boundary spikes which accumulate to \(z\) as \(p\to \infty \).
