Let \(p\) be a rational prime. The author considers the equation \[ x^2+p^{2m}=y^n \quad \text{in \(x,y,m,n\in \mathbb{N}\)}, \leqno(1) \] and provides a classification of the solutions of (1) for \(m>1\) in terms of some Lucas numbers. As a consequence of this result, the author is able to solve equation (1) for a large collection of possible values of the prime \(p\).
