The authors present a stable numerical coupling of exterior and interior problems for the wave equation. They show that convolution quadrature time discretization inherits the positivity property from the time-continuous to the time-discrete setting. and describe the weak first-order formulation of the coupled problem. They describe the discretization and discuss the space discretization by standard finite elements in the interior domain and boundary elements. In addition, the authors study the spatial stability of a spatial semidiscretization. They concentrate on the analysis of the numerical methods, numerical experiments are not presented.
