The remarkable paper by \textit{V. G. Kurbatov} [Funct. Differ. Equ. 8, No. 3--4, 323--333 (2001; Zbl 1050.47036)] contains the construction of some algebras of bounded integral operators in Hilbert spaces of functions on abelian locally compact groups. These operators were singled out by the property that their integral kernels are pointwise dominated by convolution kernels associated to absolutely integrable functions, and it was proved that the aforementioned algebra of integral operators is closed under inversion. Afterwards, a recent paper by \textit{I. Beltiţă} and \textit{D. Beltiţă} [Ann. Henri Poincaré 16, No. 5, 1283--1306 (2015; Zbl 1328.46056)] extended that inverse-closedness property to similarly defined algebras of bounded integral operators in Hilbert spaces of vector-valued functions on locally compact groups satisfying suitable conditions that apply, for instance, to all connected simply connected nilpotent Lie groups. This version of the theorem of Kurbatov was motivated by applications to Weyl-Pedersen calculus for representations of nilpotent Lie groups associated to flat coadjoint orbits, and the method of proof was suggested by the classical Takai duality theorem on crossed products of \(C^*\)-algebras. The paper under review shows that the above method of proof, but specialized from locally compact groups to discrete groups, actually works for operators defined in terms of twisted convolution, and also replacing Haar integrals by summation against a weight satisfying suitable conditions. In addition, instead of closedness under inversion, the author also studies closedness under inversion modulo a suitable ideal of the algebra under consideration, which is motivated by the study of Fredholm operators.
