The purpose of this article is to apply the asymptotic partial domain decomposition method for the heat equation in a thin structure. After defining a rod structure \(B^{\varepsilon}\) (with a small parameter \(\varepsilon\)), the unsteady heat equation in \(B^{\varepsilon}\) with Neumann boundary condition on the lateral boundary is formulated. The problem is studied by means of its variational formulation that gives existence, uniqueness of the solution and estimates with a constant independent of \(\varepsilon\). The asymptotic expansion of the solution, constructed in a previous work, is recalled and the asymptotic partial domain decomposition method is applied for this problem. Since the asymptotic solution has a regular part, it is possible to reduce the original 2D model to a hybrid one: partially 2D, partially 1D (in the truncated middle parts of the cylinders forming the rod structure), with special interface conditions between the 2D and 1D parts. A finite volume scheme is proposed for solving the hybrid dimension problem previously presented and the error between the exact solution and the approximate finite volume solution of the partially decomposed problem is established. Finally, some numerical examples are presented to illustrate the theoretical results.
