The authors develop the concept of orthogonal wavelets centered on an irregular knot sequence. In this context, two families of continuous, piecewise polynomial, and orthogonal wavelets are constructed. Efficient algorithms for the implementation of these schemes are derived and applied to an image. As a second application, continuous, piecewise quadratic, and orthogonal wavelet bases on the quasi-crystal lattice defined by the ``golden-ratio'' integers are exhibited.
