It is well known that every Fredholm operator is a semi-Fredholm operator, but the converse is not true in general. In this paper, the author proves that semi-Fredholm implies Fredholm for the class of band-dominated operators. From these results, Fredholmness of a band-dominated operator and surjectivity of all its limit operators are equivalent. The results obtained here are interesting, because the class of band-dominated operators covers particular classes of operators such as Toeplitz, Laurent, Schrödinger, Jacobi, and also certain types of integral operators.
