This paper is devoted to the study of the relationship between the curvature tensor and the causal geometry of an Einstein vacuum spacetime. It focuses on the bounded-\(L^2\)-curvature conjecture that the time of existence of a classical solution to the Einstein vacuum equations depends only on the \(L^2\) norm of the curvature and a lower bound on the volume radius of the corresponding initial data set. Here, a complete proof of the \(L^2\) curvature conjecture is given. The optimality of the result regarding the causal geometric properties is investigated. It is worth mentioning that \(L^2\) curvature bounds are needed to find lower bounds for the radius of injectivity of causal boundaries. These are essential tools in the study of well-posedness for quasilinear hyperbolic systems in spacetimes of higher dimensions.
