This article studies a natural higher rank analog of the Joyce-Song stable pair stability and wall-crossing formula. The study starts with introducing an auxiliary category \(\mathcal B_p\) of complexes \( V\otimes\mathcal O_X(-n)\to F\) and two kinds of stability conditions \(\widetilde{\tau}\) and \(\tau^\bullet\) on it. Then the moduli scheme of semistable objects (for both stabilities) are constructed. Next, applying the formalism of stack functions in the Ringel-Hall algebra, the author has a wall-crossing formula for counting invariants of stable objects in \(\mathcal B_p\). In the rank two case, the author obtains some explicit expressions of the counting invariants. Finally, the \(\widetilde{\tau}\)-semistable objects in \(\mathcal B_p\) are identified with the original Joyce-Song \(\widehat{\tau}\)-stable pairs. The article is well prepared and quite readable. The reviewer recommends it for those who have some knowledge on the Donaldson-Thomas theory and are interested in explicit calculations of counting invariants.
