An abstract multiplicity theorem for a class of nonlinear equations of the type \(Lu+b u^{+}=s \phi_1\) in the Hilbert space \(H=L^2(\Omega)\) is proved in the paper. Here \(L:D(L)\rightarrow H\) is an unbounded self adjoint linear operator and \(\phi_1\) is its first positive eigenfunction. Multiplicity results are obtained using Lyapunov and Schmidt reduction method. The proof is interesting and three questions are formulated. Numerical experiments based on the Newton's method and parameter continuation algorithm in the parameter \(b\) on the regions \((0,\pi)\) and \((0,\pi)^2\) are presented in the fourth section. | |||
