This paper is concerned with the global existence and decay properties of solution to the Cauchy problem for the micropolar fluid system based on the energy method. The decay structure of the linearized homogeneous system, written as two decoupled subsystems, is studied using spectral analysis. Then, the global existence of the reformulated Cauchy problem with small smooth initial data is shown; a discussion of the solutions which, indeed, decay in time with some rates under some extra regularity and integrability conditions on initial data, is also presented.
