The abstract Cauchy problem for the Euler-Poisson-Darboux equation \[ u''(t)+\frac{k}tu'(t)=Au(t),\, t>0; \quad u(0)=u_0,\, u'(0)=0,\eqno(1) \] where \(A\) is a closed operator in a Banach space \(E\) with domain a \(D(A)\) dense in \(E\) and \(k>0\), is considered. Problem (1) was considered earlier in [the first author, Dokl. Math. 55, No. 1, 103--105 (1997); translation from Dokl. Akad. Nauk, Ross. Akad. Nauk 352, No. 5, 587--589 (1997; Zbl 0965.34052)]. Problem (1) is said to be uniformly well posed if there exists an operator function \(Y_k(t)\) defined on \(E\) and commuting with \(A\) and numbers \(M\geq 1\), \(\omega \geq 0\), such that for any \(u_0\in D(A)\) the function \(Y_k(t)u_0\) is the unique solution of the problem (1) and \(\| Y_k(t)\|\leq M\exp(\omega t)\), \(\| (Y_k(t)u_0)'\|\leq Mt\exp(\omega t)\| Au_0\|\). Operator \(Y_k(t)\) is called the Bessel operator function of the problem (1). Some properties of the problem (1) are given in the Theorems 1--3. The necessary conditions for the uniform well-posedness of the problem (1) are obtained in Theorem 4. These conditions are given in terms of fractional power \(R^{1+k/2}(\lambda^2)\) (here \(\mathrm{Re}\lambda> \omega\)) of the resolvent \(R(\lambda)=(\lambda I-A)^{-1}\) of the operator \(A\). Then, in Theorem 5, using the Lemmas 1--7 a sufficient condition for the uniform well-posedness of the problem (1) is obtained. In Theorem 6 a criterion for the uniform well-posedness of the problem (1) is given. Three examples that illustrate the obtained results are considered.
