This article deals with the compressible Hall-magnetohydrodynamic (Hall-MHD) equations. These equations consist in the well-known compressible isentropic MHD equations, in which a Hall effect term is added. These equations arise as a model in several fields in physics, such as electromagnetism and star formation. The aim of this paper is to study the low Mach number limit of the compressible Hall-MHD equations, which has been previously made for the compressible MHD equations. It turns out that when the Mach number tends to zero, the incompressible MHD equations are formally obtained. This fact is rigorously proved in the paper. More precisely, the author shows that for suitable initial data, the classical solutions of the compressible MHD equations converge to the ones of the incompressible MHD equations. Technical difficulties appear in the proof of this result, due to the presence of the Hall effect term. These issues are overcome by the relevant use of a general convergence-stability result for hyperbolic-parabolic systems and Gronwall-type arguments. | |||
