A homogeneous Riemannian manifold \((M = G/H,g)\) with a reductive decomposition \[ \mathfrak{g} = \mathfrak{h} + \mathfrak{m} \] is called cyclic if \[ \mathrm{cycl}_{X,Y,Z}g( [X,Y]_{\mathfrak{m}}, Z) =0,\,\, X,Y,Z \in \mathfrak{m} = T_oM,\, o = eH \] where \(\mathrm{cycl}\) stands for the cyclic sum and \(X_{\mathfrak{m}}\) for the projection onto the tangent space \(\mathfrak{m}\). If, moreover, the group \(G\) is unimodular, then the manifold is called traceless cyclic. In a previous paper [``Homogeneous spin Riemannian manifolds with the simplest Dirac operator'', Preprint, \url{arxiv:1504.05925v2}], the authors showed that the Dirac operator of a traceless spin cyclic manifolds is similar to the Dirac operator of symmetric spaces with spin structure. This is a motivation for the investigation and classification of such cyclic manifolds which is the aim of the paper under review. The authors describe the differential geometry of cyclic manifolds (curvature and Ricci tensors, canonical trace form and its properties, etc.), give characterisations of such manifolds and consider different special types of cyclic manifolds. The classification of traceless cyclic manifolds of dimension at most \(4\) had been obtained by \textit{O. Kowalski} and \textit{F. Tricerri} [Conf. Semin. Mat. Univ. Bari 222, 24 p. (1987; Zbl 0655.53038)]. The authors extend this classification to cyclic manifolds of non-unimodular group. They give many examples of cyclic manifolds in higher dimension. In particular, they present a large list of examples of cyclic metrics on noncompact irreducible 3-symmetric spaces of a semisimple Lie group \(G\).
