By using the homogeneous balance of undetermined coefficients method, the authors investigate the exact solutions of the Eckhaus equation. Moreover, the authors choose the KdV equation \(u_t +uu_x + \delta u_{xxx} =0\) and the generalized Boussinesq equation \(u_{tt} + 2 \alpha u_{xt} +(\alpha^2 + \beta)u_{xx} +\gamma uu_{xx} + \delta u_{xxxx}= 0\) where \(\delta\), \(\alpha\), \(\beta\) and \(\gamma \) are known constants, as examples to illustrate the method.
