The aim of this paper is to show that symmetries of appropriate second order partial differential equations, with constant coefficients, give a clear insight into the properties of hypergeometric equations. As the author states in \S1.3 ``This paper can be considered as a sequel to [the first author, Ann. Henri Poincaré 15, No. 8, 1569--1653 (2014; Zbl 1305.33012)]. Nevertheless, it is to a large degree self-contained and independent of [loc. cit.]''. And, indeed, in order to understand the paper under review this paper [loc. cit.] helps to see the way the lists of results on discrete symmetries, transmutation relations and factorizations are derived for the five well-known types of operators: hypergeometric, Gegenbauer, confluent, Hermite and \({}_0F_1\) (related to the Bessel equation). This lenghty paper contains very few proofs and an overview of the Contents is given by the author in an extensive list (two pages) right after the abstract: \S1 Introduction (9 pages) \S2 Hypergeometric operators and their symmetries (7 pages) \S3 Basic complex geometry (3 pages) \S4 Line bundles (2\(1\over 2\) pages) \S5 Complex Euclidean spaces (3 pages) \S6 Conformal invariance (11\(1\over 2\) pages) \S7 \(\mathrm{so}(\mathbb C^6)\) and the hypergeometric equation (7 pages) \S8 \(\mathrm{so}(\mathbb C^5)\) and the Gegenbauer equation (6 pages) \S9 Symmetries of the heat equation (7 pages) \S10 \(\mathrm{sch}(\mathbb C^2)\) and the confluent equation (5 pages) \S11 \(\mathrm{sch}(\mathbb C^1)\) and the Hermite equation (3\(1\over 2\) pages) \S12 \(\mathbb C^2\rtimes \mathrm{so}(\mathbb C^2)\) and the \({}_0F_1\) equation (3 pages) References (48 items, 2 pages)
