On \(t\)-dependent hyperbolic systems. II. (Q2374229): Difference between revisions

The author is interested in the Cauchy problem \[ D_t U=A(t,D_x) U, \quad U(0,x)=U_0(x), \] where the time-dependent matrix-valued operator \(A=A(t,D_x)\) satisfies some uniform strict hyperbolicity assumptions combined with different conditions to the symbol \(A(t,\xi)\) describing the time-dependence in the system. To explain the conditions the author introduces the notions of hyperbolic principal symbol, hyperbolic subprincipal symbol and large time principal symbol of the symbol \(A(t,\xi)\) and uses diagonalisers, symbol classes and dichotomy conditions in different parts of the extended phase space. In the so-called hyperbolic zone a standard approach is used to construct the fundamental solution. In the so-called pseudodifferential zone the system is rewritten as a system of Fuchs type and asymptotic integration is used to construct a fundamental system of solutions. Both strategies allow to estimate the fundamental solution and to obtain \(L^2-L^2\) estimates for solutions of the Cauchy problem. Moreover, \(L^p-L^q\) estimates are proved on the conjugate line. Therefore, several conditions to the level sets of parts of the phase functions are used. At the end of the paper the author shows how the general results of this paper can be applied to concrete models. For Part I, see [\textit{M. Ruzhansky} and the author, J. Differ.
