The author expresses the original Reissner-Mindlin-Timoshenko system modeling the plate deflection and angular displacements in an operator form with a nonlinear damping term and boundary sources \[ \begin{aligned} u_{tt} -\text{div}\,S(u)+Q(u)= & 0\;\text{in}\;\Omega\times (0,T), \\ S_\nu(u)+u+(\mathcal{S}(u_t))= & (\mathcal{F}(u))\;\text{on} \;\partial\Omega\times (0,T) \end{aligned} \] with Cauchy data prescribed in the finite energy space \((H^1(\Omega))^3\times (L^2(\Omega))^3.\) He develops a potential well theory for the presented system, proves the global well posedness for potential well solutions in presence of unrestricted boundary sources and establishes asymptotic uniform energy decay rates with their dependence on the damping nonlinearities.
