For the Hardy inequality \(\int_{\Omega}|\nabla u|^p\, dx\geq c\int_{\Omega}|u|^p/d^p\, dx\), where \(\Omega\) is a bounded domain in \(\mathbb{R}^n\) and \(d(x)= \text{dist} (x, \partial \Omega)\), the best constant \(H_p\) for \(c\) is generally unknown, especially for non-convex domains. In this paper, the authors study the dependance of \(H_p\) on \(p\) for \(p\in (1,\infty)\). They first prove that \(H_p\) as a function of \(p\) satisfies a certain monotonicity property and is right-continuous, and then further show that under the assumption that \(\Omega\) is \(C^2\), \(H_p\) is continuous, and is even differentiable if \(H_p<((p-1)/p)^p\).
