This paper proves asymptotic formulae \[ \#\{x,y\leq H: xy^k+C \text{ is \(k\)-free}\}\sim c_1 H^2, \qquad (H\rightarrow\infty) \] and \[ \#\{x,y\leq H: x,y \text{ prime},\; xy^k+C \text{ is \(k\)-free}\} \sim c_2 H^2, \qquad (H\rightarrow\infty), \] when \(C\) is a non-zero constant. In the first case there is an error term saving a small power of \(H\), and in the second one saves an arbitrary power of \(\log H\). The approach taken is to use results of \textit{T. Reuss} [Pairs of \(k\)-free numbers, consecutive square-full numbers (2014), \url{arxiv:1212.3150v2}] which provide strong bounds on the number of quadruples \(x,y,a,b\) satisfying \(xy^k+C=ab^k\).
