The authors consider the initial-boundary value problem of a one dimensional wave equation with a nonlinear memory \[ u_{tt}-u_{xx}=\frac{1}{\Gamma(1-\gamma)}\int_0^t (t-s)^{-\gamma}|u(s)|^p ds. \] A blow up result is be established for \(p > 1\) and \(0 < \gamma < 1\) and initial data of any size. The result rests on the test function method due to \textit{B. Yordanov} and \textit{Q. S. Zhang} [SIAM J. Math. Anal. 36, No. 5, 1426--1433 (2005; Zbl 1074.35075); J. Funct. Anal. 231, No. 2, 361--374 (2006; Zbl 1090.35126)].
