    For a non-constant entire function \(f\) denote \(M(r,f)=\max\{|f(z)|: |z|=r\}\), \(r>0\). Let \[ \sigma(f)= \limsup_{r\to\infty} \frac{\log \log M(r,f)}{\log r}, \quad \sigma_2(f)=\limsup_{r\to\infty} \frac{\log \log \log M(r,f)}{\log r}. \] \textit{L.-Z. Yang} [Kodai Math. J. 22, No. 3, 458--464 (1999; Zbl 1004.30021)] proved the following. Theorem A. Let \(Q(z)\) be a nonconstant polynomial. If \(f\) is a solution of the differential equation \(f^{(k)} - e^{Q(z)}f = 1\), where \( k\) is a positive integer, then \(\sigma(f ) = \infty\). \textit{X.-M. Li} and \textit{C.-C. Gao} [Proc. Indian Acad. Sci., Math. Sci. 118, No. 1, 13--26 (2008; Zbl 1157.30023)] established the following. Theorem B. Let \(Q_1\) and \(Q_2\) be two nonzero polynomials, and let \(P \) be a polynomial. If \(f\) is a nonconstant solution of the equation \(f ^{(k)}- Q_1 = e^P (f-Q_2)\), then \(\sigma_2(f ) = \deg P\). The authors of the reviewed paper wish to generalize Theorem B for the solutions of the equation \[ (f^{(k)})^{n_k} \cdots (f^{(1)})^{n_1}f^{n_0}-\beta=e^{P}(f^{\gamma}-\alpha) , \] where \(\gamma=n_0+n_1+\dots+n_k\), \(n_0, \dots, n_k\) are nonnegative integers, and \( \alpha\) and \(\beta\) are entire functions having a smaller category of growth than \(f\). Unfortunately, the proofs contain gaps.
