The authors study \(N\)-body systems \[ \ddot x_j=-\sum_{k\neq j}w_{jk}\nabla G(x_j-x_k) \] and introduce a new \(2\)-parameter family of regularized kernels. These kernels are suitable for applying high-order time stepping to \(N\)-body problems, are derived by truncating a Taylor expansion to the non-regularized kernel about \(r^2+\epsilon^2\) and generate a sequence of increasingly more accurate kernels. The validity of such a two-parameter family of regularized kernels is shown. Moreover, error estimates are derived. Finally, the results are illustrated using numerical experiments (e.g. harmonic oscillators in \(1,2,3\) dimensions).
