Let \(G\) be a discrete countable group. The amenable radical of \(G\) is the largest amenable normal subgroup of \(G\). The group \(G\) is called \(C^*\)-simple if its reduced \(C^*\)-algebra has no no-trivial two-sided ideals. It is well known that \(C^*\)-simplicity of \(G\) implies triviality of its amenable radical. These two concepts are equivalent under certain assumptions. In the present paper, proving three essential theorems, the author provides several types of examples of groups with trivial amenable radical which are not \(C^*\)-simple. Furthermore, he proves that every countable group embeds into a group which is not \(C^*\)-simple and has trivial amenable radical.
