For \(C^1\)-partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms the authors define the {unstable metric} and {unstable topological} entropies and study their properties (affineness, upper semi-continuity). The unstable metric entropy is a conditional entropy along unstable manifolds. The authors show that it coincides with the entropy constructed via Lyapunov exponents by \textit{F. Ledrappier} and \textit{L. S. Young} [Ann. Math. (2) 122, No. 3, 540--574 (1985; Zbl 1371.37012)]. The definition of the unstable topological entropy is related to unstable volume growth along unstable foliations given by \textit{Y. Hua} et al. [Ergodic Theory Dyn. Syst. 28, No. 3, 843--862 (2008; Zbl 1143.37023)]. The main results are a variational principle for the unstable topological entropy and an analogue of Shannon-McMillan-Breiman theorem.
