The Bishop-Phelps-Bollobás property, introduced in [\textit{M. D. Acosta} et al., J. Funct. Anal. 254, No. 11, 2780--2799 (2008; Zbl 1152.46006)], deals with a simultaneous approximation of an operator \(T\) and a vector \(x\) at which \(T\) almost attains its norm by an operator \(S\) and a vector \(y\) such that \(S\) attains its norm at \(y\). This property was motivated by a quantitative version of the Bishop-Phelps theorem given by \textit{B. Bollobás} [Bull. Lond. Math. Soc. 2, 181--182 (1970; Zbl 0217.45104)] and has attracted a lot of attention in the last years, see, for instance, [\textit{R. Aron} et al., Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 367, No. 9, 6085--6101 (2015; Zbl 1331.46008)] and the references therein. In [Adv. Math. 240, 370--382 (2013; Zbl 1298.46010)], \textit{B. Cascales} et al. provided a version of the Bishop-Phelps-Bollobás property for Asplund operators with range in uniform algebras, extending a previous result where the target space was a \(C(K)\) space [\textit{R. M. Aron} et al., Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 139, No. 10, 3553--3560 (2011; Zbl 1235.46013)]. In the paper under review, the authors extend those results to a wider class of operators and to a wider class of target Banach spaces. From the abstract: ``Instead of proving a BPB-type theorem for each space separately we isolate two main notions: \(\Gamma\)-flat operators with range in a space with ACK\(_\rho\) structure (\dots)''. Here, the authors are able to detect what is used in the previous two references of the Asplundness of the operators (this is the \(\Gamma\)-flatness) and, on the other hand, extend the properties of the uniform algebras (ACK\(_\rho\) structure) to prove a result of the following type: the class of \(\Gamma\)-flat operators with range in a Banach space which has the ACK\(_\rho\) structure with respect to \(\Gamma\) satisfies a Bishop-Phelps-Bollobás-type theorem. Let us give some remarks to better understand the deepness of the result: {\parindent=0.7cm\begin{itemize}\item[(i)] every Asplund operator is \(\Gamma\)-flat for every set \(\Gamma\), \item[(ii)] if \(\Gamma\) is discrete, then every bounded linear operator is \(\Gamma\)-flat, \item[(iii)] uniform algebras have the ACK\(_\rho\) structure (with respect to suitable sets \(\Gamma\)), \item[(iv)] Banach spaces having the Lindenstrauss's property \(\beta\) have the ACK\(_\rho\) structure with respect to a discrete set \(\Gamma\). \end{itemize}} Further, the authors present some stability properties of the ACK\(_\rho\) structure which provide new target spaces for which the Asplund operators with range in these target spaces satisfy a Bishop-Phelps-Bollobás-type theorem.
