By definition, a smooth map between smooth manifolds is called a special generic map if all of its singularities are definite fold points [\textit{O. Saeki} and \textit{K. Sakuma}, Pac. J. Math. 184, No. 1, (1998; Zbl 0893.57022)]. The author investigates the following problem referring to the article [\textit{O. Saeki}, Mat. Contemp. 5, 161--186 (1993; Zbl 0855.57026)]: to determine the set of integers \(p\) for which a given homotopy sphere admits a special generic map into \(\mathbb R^p\). Among other things, he proves that for the Milnor \(7\)-sphere the corresponding set consists of three numbers \(1\), \(2\) and \(7\). He also underlines that this is a solution of Problem 5.1 from [\textit{O. Saeki}, RIMS Kôkyûroku Bessatsu B55, 185--203 (2016; Zbl 1415.57020)].
