This paper examines closely the first ten pages of Desargues' \textit{Brouillon project}, emphasizing its treatment of involutions. In the \textit{Brouillon project}, ``involutions'' are certain six-point configurations with properties ultimately related to mappings that are involutions in the usual modern sense of the term. The authors also discuss the polemical response to Desargues by his contemporary Jean de Beaugrand.
