Let \(H^p_{1,d}\) the Hardy space of exact 1-forms associated with the Riesz transform acting on Riemannian manifolds, as it was previously defined by \textit{P. Auscher} et al. [J. Geom. Anal. 18, No. 1, 192--248 (2008; Zbl 1217.42043)]. In this paper, the author shows that, if \(M\) is a doubling manifold satisfying the so called scaled Poincaré inequalities, that is, for every ball \(B\) of radius \(r\), and every function \(f\in C^{\infty} (B)\), \[ \int_B | f-f_B|^2 \leq C r^2 \int_B |\nabla f|^2, \] where \(f_B\) denotes the average of \(f\) in \(B\), then the boundedness of the Riesz transform \(d\Delta^{-1/2}\) on \(L^p\), for \(p>2\), is essentially equivalent to the fact that \(H^p_{1,d}\) coincides with the \(L^p\) closure of the set of \(L^p\) exact harmonic 1-forms.
