In this very interesting paper, the authors consider one of the major problems in the theory of the porous medium equations (PME), i.e. the regularity of the free boundary. Assuming the regularity of the solution, they prove \(C^\infty\)-regularity of the interface after a small time. The proof is based on an improvement of Caffarelli's technique of flattening the boundary by rescaling, on the Carleson measure approach and on Gaussian estimates for subelliptic problems. This important result eliminates the hypothesis of non-degeneracy on the initial data that was carried on till now in the literature.
