Following an appropriate variational principle, the authors establish a pertinent generalization of the Brondsted-Rockafellar-Borwein theorem for proper, convex, lower semi-continuous and epi-pointed functions defined on locally convex spaces. Significant examples, limiting calculus rules and the maximal monotonicity for the subdifferentials are also given.
