For spline based collocation, the author uses the obsolete term of the differential quadrature (DQ) method. He uses quartic B-spline bases as test functions in order to define a differentiation collocation matrix. Then he observes that it leads to non-optimal approximations for smooth functions, i.e., continuous and differentiable functions of some order. He improves this differentiation process and approximates the continuous solutions to boundary value problems attached to some linear elliptic equations of second and fourth orders.
