The aim of the paper is an estimate for the dimension of the image of the unit circle under a quasiconformal mapping. More precisely, the paper deals with the maximum of the Minkowski dimension M.dim of \(\tilde{w}^\mu (\mathbb{S}^1)\) where \(\mathbb{S}^1\) is the unit circle and \(w\) is the solution of the beltrami equation \(\overline{\partial}w = \mu \partial w \) which fixes the points \(0,1, \infty \) and the maximum is taken over all Beltrami coefficients \(\mu\) on the plane with \(||\mu||_\infty \leq k,\) for a fixed \( k, 0 \leq k < 1\). The Minkowski dimension of a set \(E\) is given in the following way \[ \text{M.dim E} = \limsup_{\epsilon \to 0} \frac{\log N(\epsilon,E)}{\log 1/\epsilon}, \] where \(E\) is a bounded set in the complex plane and \(N(\epsilon,E)\) denotes the minimal number of disks of diameter \(\epsilon\) that are needed to cover \(E.\) More about the Minkowski dimension is given by \textit{C. Pommerenke} [Boundary behaviour of conformal maps. Berlin: Springer-Verlag (1992; Zbl 0762.30001)]. The main result of the paper is an estimate for the Minkowski dimension of the unit circle under a special class of quasiconformal mappings, where the support of \(\mu\) is contained in a union of infinitely many hyperbolic disks, any two of which are at least in a given positive distance. An analogous estimate for the rate of growth of a solution \(u\) of the second-order parabolic differential equation \[ \frac{\partial u}{\partial t} = \frac{1}{2}\Delta_{\mathrm{hyp}} u + V(x)u(x,t), (x,t) \in \mathbb{D} \times (0,\infty) \] is also given.
