Minimizers for the fractional Sobolev inequality on domains (Q1751581): Difference between revisions

The authors study a version of the fractional Sobolev inequality on the halfspace \(\mathbb{R}^{n-1}\times (0, +\infty)\) for functions vanishing on the boundary. It is shown that, unlike the classical Sobolev inequalities in domains, in this case the best constant in the inequality, i.e. a minimizer, exists under standard assumptions. The case of a bounded domain is also discussed, while some still open problems in this research field are mentioned in passing. An appendix with two technical results closes the paper.
