In the first half of this paper, the author expresses the multigraded Betti numbers of an ideal as the sum of the multigraded Betti numbers of some dominant and some purely nondominant ideals. In the second half, the author focuses on monomial ideals whose structural decomposition has no purely nondominant part. As a result of this study, he obtains the multigraded Betti numbers of two families that he calls \(2\)-semidominant and almost generic ideals. Moreover, the authors gives a new proof of a classic theorem of \textit{H. Charalambous} [J. Algebra 137, No. 2, 491--500 (1991; Zbl 0729.13014)] that states the following: let \(k\) be a field, and \(M\) an Artinian monomial ideal in \(S=k[x_1,\dots,x_n]\); then, for all i, \(b_i(S/M)\geq\binom{n}{i}\).
