The paper recalls the story of presenting an ellipse as an oval with the help of circles. An almost perfect approximation, from a practical point of view, can be achieved by eight properly chosen circles (the paper gives coordinates and radii) and the authors hope that this result could be useful for archeologists testing shapes of some Roman amphitheatres.
