In this paper, it is shown that the equation in the generalized Riccati and Abel chain of order not exceeding four is linearizable by point transformations if and only if it is already a linear equation. Then the expressions of Lie pseudo-group of equivalence transformations are provided. It seems that this method has some essential limitations for higher order equations.
