The exponential type of a measure $\mu $ defined on $\mathbb{R}$, denoted $ T_{\mu }$, is defined as the infimum of $\{a:\{e^{isx}:s\in \lbrack 0,a]\}\}$ is dense in $L^{2}(\mu)$. There are measures $\mu $ with $T_{\mu }=\infty ,0 $ or a positive real number. A measure $\mu $ is called a Frostman measure if there are positive constants $C,\alpha $ such that $\mu (I)$ $\leq C\left\vert I\right\vert ^{\alpha}$ for all intervals $I$. The main result of this paper is to prove that any Frostman measure has type either $0$ or $ \infty $. Frostman measures are very common and include, for example, absolutely continuous measures with bounded density, measures with density in $L^{p}$ for some $1<p<\infty $, and doubling measures. The author proves this result by obtaining a new formula for computing the type of a measure.
