    This paper is concerned with the weight distribution of a special linear code, which is defined using a trace representation for generalized quasi-cyclic (GQC) codes and shown to be \(\mathbb{Z}_{2}\)-double cyclic. Using the trace representation for a GQC code given in Theorem 3.6 of \textit{C. Güneri} et al. [Finite Fields Appl. 47, 183--202 (2017; Zbl 1409.94945)], the authors defined a \(\mathbb{F}_{q}\)-double cyclic code as follows: Suppose that \(m_{0},m_{1}\) are positive integers such that \(\gcd\left( m_{j},q\right) =1\) for \(j=0,1\). Then each \(x^{m_{j}}-1\) factors into distinct irreducible polynomials. Assume that \(f_{1}(x),\ldots ,f_{s}(x)\) are distinct irreducible polynomials in the decomposition of \(x^{m_{0}}-1\) and \(x^{m_{1}}-1\) over \(\mathbb{F}_{q}\) respectively. Then, for each \(j\) \[ x^{m_{j}}-1=f_{1}(x)^{v_{1,j}}f_{2}(x)^{v_{2,j}}\ldots f_{s}(x)^{v_{s,j}} \] where \(v_{i,j}\in \{0,1\}\). For \(1\leq i\leq s,0\leq j\leq 1\), set \(E_{i}:= \frac{\mathbb{F}_{q}[x]}{\langle f_{i}(x)\rangle }\) and define \[ E_{i,j}:=\left\{ \begin{array}{ll} E_{i}, & \text{ if }v_{i,j}=1 \\ \{0\}, & \text{ if }v_{i,j}=0. \end{array} \right. \] They fix a root \(\alpha _{i}\) of each \(f_{i}(1\leq i\leq s)\) and let \( \mathcal{C}_{i}\subset E_{i,0}\times E_{i,1}\) be linear codes over \(E_{i}\) of length \(2\) for \(1\leq i\leq s\). They defined a linear code \(\mathcal{C}\) as \[ \mathcal{C}=\left\{ c\left( \lambda _{1},\ldots ,\lambda _{s}\right) =\left( c_{0}\left( \lambda _{1},\ldots ,\lambda _{s}\right) \mid c_{1}\left( \lambda _{1},\ldots ,\lambda _{s}\right) \right) \mid \lambda _{i}=\left( \lambda _{i,0},\lambda _{i,1}\right) \in \mathcal{C}_{i},1\leq i\leq s\right\} \tag{1} \] where \(c_{j}\left( \lambda _{1},\ldots ,\lambda _{s}\right) =\frac{1}{m_{j}} \left( \sum\limits_{i=1}^{s}\mathrm{Tr}_{E_{i}/\mathbb{F}_{q}}\left( \lambda _{i,j}\alpha _{i}^{-k_{j}}\right) \right) _{0\leq k_{j}\leq m_{j}-1}\) and \( j=0,1.\) The authors show that the linear code \(\mathcal{C}\) as defined in (1) is a \(\mathbb{F}_{q}\)-double cyclic code of length \(m_{0}+m_{1}\) and obtained the weight distribution of this code when \(x^{m_{0}}-1\) and \(x^{m_{1}}-1\) factors into exactly two factors.
