Let \(A\) be a subset of a normed space \(X\). A point \(x\) is called a locally weakly strongly extreme point of \(A\) if there is a neighbourhood \(U\) of \(x\) such that, whenever \(x_n,y_n\) belong to both \(A\) and \(U\) and \(\lim(x_n+y_n)=2x\), then weak-$\lim x_n=x\). It is shown that, if \(C\) is a pointed cone in \(X\) and the family of open slices containing the origin \(0\) is a neighbourhood base for \(0\) relative to the weak topology of \(C\cap B(0,R)\), for every \(R\), then \(0\) is a locally weakly strongly extreme point of \(C\). It is also shown that, if \(x\) is a locally weakly strongly extreme point of a closed convex subset \(K\) of \(X\), then \(x\) is a preserved extreme point, i.e., \(x\) is an extreme point of the weak$^*$ closure of \(K\) in the second dual of \(X\). It is also shown that, if \(x\) is a point of continuity and a weakly strongly extreme point of a convex subset \(A\) of \(X\), then \(x\) is a denting point of \(A\). Many results of this nature are proved. It is proved, among other interesting results, that \(0\) is a denting point of the pointed cone \(C\) of \(X\) if and only if \(0\) is a point of continuity of \(C\) and \(C\) has a quasi-generating dual cone. In the last two sections, the authors answer several open problems in the literature regarding cones in the case the cones have quasi-generating dual cones.
